guitars and measuring tape

I got the red guitar finished after work today and delivered to Tammy, sure wish I was going down to New Orleans with her!

Tonight's ring is a copper flower that has been heavily patinated with livur of sulfur(love the stuff!).I cut a thin strip of pink measuring tape and ran both ends up through the center of the flower. You can then adjust to your finger size and knot it off on top!

What a weekend

just a quickie ring from things lying on the bench tonight as I've had a migraine all day today and now that I'm feeling better I need to finish up this guitar neckalce for my friend Tammy. She's heading down to New Orleans to vend at the New Orleans Jazz Fest and thought it would be fun to wear this down there, I think so too!

We were getting a new roof on our garage this weekend and have a dumpster right now so thought we'd better take advantage of that and started ripping up the carpet that runs up the staircase into our bedroom(almost certain this is what led to the migraine today!).

The floors look great underneath, just a few paint splatters here and there but nothing major. this is going to be sooo much easier to take care of and I'm sure we will be breathing much better!

We did some other fun things this weekend but I'd better get back to that guitar so will fill you in on the rest tomorrow.

Project Runway challenge-season 7 episode 12

These are the circusy surprise that I gave you a sneek peek of earlier in the week. The Etsy Metal team does a weekly challenge along with the tv show Project Runway, and they invite guests to particpate with them. I've been wanting to join in on the fun all season and have come up with ideas each week but just could never find the time to get my projects done. But finally I have one!

I am calling these earrings "Juggling Under the Stars". They are made of sterling silver and various street signs.

Elephant on Stage

A sweet little elephant dancing on stage. Her stage is made from the cardboard tube in a ribbon roll, tissue paper, paint, more paper and glitter. I'm want to get another little elephant and when I have a bit more time construct this ring again making the stage in sterling.

The Ringmaster

The Ringmaster's top hat! Made from sterling silver, copper, and brass. This one was going smoothly until it came time to solder the little star, what a pain that was! Of all the parts I can't believe that is what took the longest.

Circus themed

Tonight's ring is inspired by the circus. The Etsy Metal group does a weekly challenge that coinsides with that weeks episode of Project Runway. The episode was great , those were my kind of outfits!

I couldn't go to sleep last night because of all the ideas bouncing around in my head. I just had to get up and go downstairs to sketch for awhile. Amazingly after I got the ideas on paper I felt sleepy, went back to bed and think I fell asleep instantly.

I think I may just finish out this weeks rings on this theme.

This last one is a sneek peek at another circusy surprise.

101 & a new idea

My friend Dave brought me a big chunk of this wire that he recently acquired in his dumpster diving ventures. He showed up at the coffee shop the other night with this wire looking like a bouquet! I've got some great friends that bring me all kinds of miscellaneous metal.

I was in the studio today putting together some more City Birds and making the clasps for these when I laid them all out and came up with this idea for a necklace. I'm really feeling the urge to make some large one of a kind pieces.

Ring #100!!!!

100 rings down only 265 more to go! I've been anxious to use this blue cabachon and bezel. I got a whole bag of these vintage plastic pieces and also the brass settings when we were in New York last August. The copper shank is stamped with the # 100 all the way around in celebration of this milestone.

ring a Day/inspiration

I went into the studio tonight and came up with one idea and worked on it for a bit then decided I didnt like it and came up with another idea.

The first idea however is turning into a lovely pair of earrings. I can't wait to finish these now!

#95

A new one to go in the Urban Victoriana grouping. I got some serrated bezel wire last week and thought that would be a nice addition with this look. Once again I had no idea what I was going to make until I sat at the bench and flipped through some scraps. I've got some ideas for rings but they are more elaborate than I can do in an evening after work. I'm kinda thinking it may be time to mess around with a different medium for awhile, like clay.

Tin Flower-#92

I've been thinking about those plastic bottle flowers again that Anthropologie had in their windows. I'm slowly saving my bottles at work so that I can make a curtain of them for my kitchen window. Also, today while outside after lunch I heard a little boy telling his mom that April showers bring May flowers. So, with flowers on the brain I came up with this ring. Also, I didn't really feel like starting up the torch and the pickle pot so it had to be made with a cold connection, tube rivets being my favorite method.
