ring a Day #59

Made from some scraps on my workbench. Wish I had some more of those m&m's!! I'd also like a do-over on the weekend. I hate it when I get a headache that takes over the whole weekend. Feels like such a waste to not be productive over those two days! Now, it's 11:00 pm on sunday and I finally feel good again,DRATS!

On a more pleasant note you have to check out this painting done by Chris Butler in honor of our friend Mac, it's fantastic!! Also, Mac's last book "The Cryptoterrestrials" is due to be released this month. I can't wait to read it.

The Pink Queen

This ring started out to be a pendant but it was just not a good day for me in the studio so I picked it up and soldered a shank to the back making her a ring instead. That part didn't even go well but it's done and I like the idea so will try this one again.

She is made up from copper, brass and sterling. The pink part of the skull was cut from a cookie tin.

The resin is actually still setting up as I took the photos!

ring a Day #57

Tonight's ring was inspired by the beautiful plastic water bottle flowers that are hanging in Anthropologie's windows right now.

Plastic water bottle, copper, street signs, and resin are the supplies used for this one.

It can serve a dual purpose as an aspirin holder! I could also make different colors and with a twist switch out the flower heads to match any outfit.

I'd like to make a bunch of these and hang them as a curtain in my kitchen, they would be so cheerful to look at daily!

At the coffee shop

Made this one while sitting at the coffee shop this evening. I took in a box of bacon caramel toffee from Vosges to share with everyone tonight and man was it good! I can't wait to try the bacon chocolate chip pancake mix next.

ring a Day #55

Some bits and baubles from one of my workbenches in the studio. I've got so many new earring ideas that I want to make so my rings will probably be pretty quick ones for awhile so that I have more time in the evenings to make these earrings up.

When I got into work and sat down at my desk I noticecd a coffee stain on my calendar that looked an awful lot like a mustache. I traced around the stain then just kept going!

ring a Day #54

Wasn't able to get into the studio this evening so made another ring from the infamous junk drawer!

play day in the studio

Got to play around today on an idea I had sketched out after doing the bird ring. It turned out really well and I'm so happy that the balance of the bird on the hoop is perfect. I'll probably turn this one into a necklace for myself since I'm sure the next go around will come out a bit neater. Working on this earring gave me yet another idea for an earring so had better get it sketched out so I don't forget.

Tonight's ring utilized some of the scrap pieces in my bench drawer. It's a tiny thing, would be a good children's ring.

Pick Me Up

Been feeling kinda gloomy over the weekend. I really need to see some sunshine I think! Thought a balloon might help. Mikey and Sugar really liked this one.

I have today off from work,so nice. I took Bryan into work this morning then got the grocery shopping done and now having my first cup of coffee. Heading into the studio shortly and then planning on getting a pot of chili in the crockpot this afternoon so dinner will be ready when Bryan is ready to come home. AAh, if only every day could be like this!

#51

Todays ring has a little spacey feeling to it. A curve in the road street sign sandwiched between sterling silver.

I also worked on some earrings this afternoon that are inspired by some of this week's rings. I'll have these blue hearts posted in my Etsy shop tomorrow as well as a second pair that are almost finished.

A nice group shot of the Urban Victoriana rings.

#50

WOW! 50 rings already, hard to believe. Here's another for the Urban Victoriana collection. I'm going to work on some earrings this weekend that will match several of this past weeks rings. I'm very excited to see what I come with in the next few days.

Ring #50- sterling silver and a vintage bakelite die.

ring a Day #48

A tall sterling bezel holding a piece of a men working street sign. It sure is a bit annoying having to go to bed (so I can get through work the next day) when I'm having so much fun in the studio!!

LUCKY #7

Inspired by the beautiful label on this Boulevard beer(which I later cracked open after completing the ring). Sterling silver and stop sign. It was another good evening in the studio!

Good studio night

Ring #46 Sterling silver and stop sign. I'm calling this look Urban Victoriana. It was another night that I went down to my bench without any idea of what I was going to make. As I sat there I looked at a ruler that also has various sized ovals and circles and decided whatever I was doing was going to be oval tonight. The rest just flowed like water! I love the victorian era, it's a great source of inspiration for me. Speaking of which, we went to see The Wolfman for Valentines and it was great! Came up with a necklace design while watching it,can't wait to sit down and make that one.

Started cutting out pieces for two new pairs of earrings also this evening. These three pieces will be sandwiched and riveted together.

This little skull will be bezel set in sterling and most likely have some sort of frilly edge like tonight's ring and a beautiful tear drop shaped piece of onyx dangling from below.

ring a Day #44

Happy Valentines! I bought a bag of M&Ms today(nearly ate the whole thing myself!) and loved the frilly little border running across the bag. It would be fun to make that pattern in silver. Possibly ring #45?

We went out for a BBQ dinner tonight for an early Valentines then a latte on the Plaza afterwards, very fun. Tomorrow afternoon we are going to see The Wolfman, I can't wait. I just know I'm going to be inspired by all the costumes and sets.

ring a Day #43

Here is the ring that I sketched out earlier this week and was anxious to complete. It's such a nice thing when a design turns out as nicely as you imagined it. This ring is completely cold connected, which means that there was no heat(torch and solder) involved. With this piece all layers and the ring shank are connected with hollow rivets or tabs. The "stone" set in the middle is a piece of stop sign. Copper and sterling silver make up the rest.

I wasn't sure if I would be able to get this one done this evening since I got a late start into the studio and a headache to boot.
Sadly tonight we found out that the flights we thought we had booked for the end of the month to Baltimore apparently had fallen through. After searching online for a bit decided it was just too expensive at this point to re-book. We were going up to walk through the American Craft Council show and see if it was something we would like to apply to for next year.

Well, at least I got a beautiful ring out of the evening! Don't you think a little Roger skull would look good in a frame like this?

ring a Day #42

I bought the greatest new marker with a brush tip today, couldn't quit drawing with it. It's a japanese pen made by Mitsubishi pencil co. I drew out these vines and flowers while we were at the coffee shop tonight then assembled them back at home. I'm anxious to work on tomorrow nights ring, can't wait!
